Puncture remedies
Site-specific installation, 2023, various dimensions.
The installation consisted of three objects: a metal needle (steel, 190 × 3 × 3 cm), a latex fabric filled with red threads threaded with needles (latex, threads, needles, 270 × 150 cm), and a stiffened textile object made from used bed sheets (500 × 180 cm). Puncture Remedies was created specifically for the space of an abandoned tire factory in Gislaved, Sweden. The project referred to the history of women’s labour in garment factories, focusing on the ambivalent function of sewing - joining and piercing. The work explored relationships between the body, labour, and gestures of repair, referring to embodied and relational forms of making, and positioning sewing as a tool for reflecting on female agency and community. The project employed techniques of soft sculpture, suspension, and embroidery, as well as organic and recycled materials (latex, reclaimed textiles). The work was shown as part of the group exhibition Elastic Traces at Gislaveds Konsthall, Gislaved, Sweden / April–May 2023.
